Two farmers kept arguing because they couldn’t tell their donkeys apart.
Finally, the first farmer said,
“I’ll cut the tail off my donkey so we’ll know which one is mine.”
A few days later, the two donkeys got into a fight, and the other donkey’s tail was bitten off.
The second farmer sighed and said,
“Fine. I’ll trim one of my donkey’s ears so I can tell it apart.”
The next day, the donkeys fought again, and the other donkey lost an ear too.
Still determined, the first farmer said,
“I’ll put a collar on my donkey.”
Before long, the donkeys fought once again, and the collar came off.
After thinking for a moment, the first farmer smiled and said,
“I’ve got a better idea. You take the white donkey, and I’ll take the black one.”
The second farmer nodded and replied,
“And maybe we should keep this gate closed from now on.”
