After 17 years of marriage, a man left his wife for a younger woman. The luxury apartment they lived in was legally his, and he wanted to stay there with his new partner.
He told his wife that if she moved out, he would buy her another place to live. She agreed but asked for three days alone in the apartment so she could pack her belongings.
On the first day, she carefully packed all of her personal items into boxes, suitcases, and storage crates. On the second day, the movers arrived and took everything away.
On the third and final day, she decided to enjoy one last evening in the home. She set the dining table with candles, played some soft music, and treated herself to a meal of prawns with a bottle of Chardonnay.
When she had finished, she quietly placed a few leftover prawns and some of the shells inside the hollow curtain rods in every room. After tidying the kitchen, she locked the door and left for good.
A few days later, the husband returned with his new girlfriend, and everything seemed perfect. Then an awful smell began to spread through the apartment. At first, it was only faint, but it became worse every day.
They scrubbed every room, mopped the floors, opened the windows, and filled the apartment with air fresheners. They checked the air vents for dead animals, had the carpets professionally cleaned, and even hired exterminators.
Nothing worked. The smell became so unbearable that they finally gave up and decided to move. The moving company packed up everything in the apartment and transported it to their new home. Including, of course… …the curtain rods.
