A pastor had a little kitten that climbed high into a tree in his backyard. The frightened kitten refused to come down, no matter how much the pastor called to it or tempted it with a bowl of warm milk.
The tree was too weak to climb, so the pastor came up with another idea.
He tied a rope to the tree and the other end to his car. His plan was to slowly pull the car forward until the tree bent low enough for him to reach the kitten.
Everything seemed to be working.
The pastor carefully watched the tree as he drove a little farther.
Just as he thought he was close enough…
Snap!
The rope broke.
The tree sprang back upright with a loud “Boing!”
The kitten shot through the air and disappeared out of sight.
The pastor felt awful.
He searched the neighborhood, asking everyone if they had seen a little kitten, but no one had.
Finally, he prayed,
“Lord, I place this kitten in Your care,”
and went on with his day.
A few days later, the pastor was shopping at the grocery store when he saw a woman from his church buying cat food.
He was surprised because everyone knew she didn’t like cats.
Curious, he asked,
“Why are you buying cat food?”
She smiled and said,
“You won’t believe this.”
She explained that her young daughter had been asking for a cat for a long time, but she had always said no.
Finally, she told her daughter,
“If God gives you a cat, you can keep it.”
The little girl went into the yard, knelt down, and prayed for a cat.
The woman shook her head and said,
“Pastor, I saw it with my own eyes.”
“A kitten suddenly came flying out of the sky with its paws stretched out and landed right in front of her!”
Moral: Never underestimate the power of God and His unique sense of humor.
