An old owl was perched on a tree at the top of a hill on a freezing winter night.
He looked down into the valley and noticed a warm light shining from a window. Hoping to find some warmth, he flew down and landed on the window ledge.
Sure enough, warm air was coming through, and before long, the owl fell fast asleep.
Unfortunately, he didn’t know that two veterinary students were inside studying for their final exams.
The students spotted the owl and decided to use him for practice.
They carefully opened the window and put the owl to sleep.
The first student examined the owl’s throat.
Student:
“He has tonsillitis. I think we should operate.”
So they performed the procedure.
Then the second student examined the other end.
Student:
“He has hemorrhoids. We should operate on those, too.”
Afterward, they placed the sleepy owl back on the window ledge.
The owl eventually woke up feeling very groggy and flew away.
The following winter, the same owl was sitting in the same tree on another freezing night.
A young owl landed beside him.
Young Owl:
“Brrr! It’s really cold tonight.”
Old Owl:
“Sure is.”
The young owl noticed the warm light in the valley.
Young Owl:
“Why don’t we fly down to that window and warm up again?”
The old owl quickly shook his head.
Old Owl:
“No way! I did that last year. I passed out, woke up groggy, and for the next six weeks I couldn’t poop worth a hoot or hoot worth a poop!”
