One day, the boss noticed that one of his most reliable employees hadn’t come to work and hadn’t even called in sick.
Since there was an urgent problem with one of the company’s main computers, he called the employee’s home.
A small child answered in a whisper.
“Hello?”
“Is your daddy home?” the boss asked.
“Yes,” whispered the child.
“May I speak with him?”
“No,” the child whispered.
Wanting to speak to an adult, the boss asked,
“Is your mommy there?”
“Yes.”
“May I talk to her?”
Again, the child whispered,
“No.”
The boss became curious.
“Is there anyone else there?”
“Yes,” whispered the child. “A policeman.”
Surprised, the boss asked,
“May I speak with the policeman?”
“No. He’s busy.”
“Busy doing what?”
“Talking to Daddy and Mommy… and the fireman.”
Now the boss heard the sound of a helicopter in the background.
“What’s that noise?” he asked.
“A helicopter,” the child whispered.
“What’s going on over there?” the boss asked, now becoming worried.
“The search team just arrived in the helicopter.”
Alarmed, the boss asked,
“What are they searching for?”
The child let out a quiet giggle and whispered,
“Me.”
