An out-of-towner accidentally drove his car into a deep ditch along a country road.
Luckily, an old farmer came by with his big horse, Benny.
Man:
“Could you help me get my car out?”
Farmer:
“Sure. Benny can pull it out.”
The farmer backed Benny up and hitched him to the car’s bumper.
Then he shouted:
Farmer:
“Pull, Nellie, pull!”
Benny didn’t move.
Farmer:
“Come on, Ranger! Pull!”
Still, Benny stood there without moving.
The farmer shouted even louder:
Farmer:
“Pull, Fred! Pull hard!”
Benny still didn’t move.
Finally, the farmer calmly said:
Farmer:
“Okay, Benny. Pull.”
Benny immediately pulled the car out of the ditch.
The man was grateful but puzzled.
Man:
“Why did you call your horse by three different names before finally calling him Benny?”
The old farmer smiled.
Farmer:
“Oh, Benny is blind. If he thought he was the only one pulling, he wouldn’t even try.”
