An elderly man named Paddy passed away. In his will, he left £40,000 for an elaborate funeral.
After the last guests had left, his widow, Colleen, turned to her oldest and dearest friend, Mary.
Colleen:
“Ah well, Paddy would be pleased.”
Mary:
“You’re right. But tell me, how much did all this really cost?”
Colleen:
“All of it. Forty thousand pounds.”
Mary:
“Oh no! I mean, it was a beautiful funeral, but £40,000?”
Colleen:
“The funeral was £6,500. I donated £500 to the church. The whisky, wine, and snacks cost another £500. The rest went toward the memorial stone.”
Mary quickly did the math.
Mary:
“For the love of God, Colleen! £32,500 for a memorial stone? How big is it?”
