One Sunday, the preacher gave a sermon about forgiveness.
His message was titled, “Forgive Your Enemies.”
At the end of the sermon, he asked the congregation,
“How many of you have forgiven your enemies?”
About half the people raised their hands.
The preacher asked the question again.
This time, nearly everyone raised a hand.
He asked once more.
Everyone responded except one elderly woman, Mrs. Johnson.
The preacher smiled and said,
“Mrs. Johnson, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”
She calmly replied,
“I don’t have any.”
The preacher looked surprised.
“Really? That’s quite unusual. May I ask how old you are?”
“Ninety-three,” she answered.
“Mrs. Johnson,” the preacher said, “would you come to the front and tell us how someone can reach your age without having a single enemy?”
The little old lady slowly walked to the front, smiled at the congregation, and said,
“I outlived every one of those idiots!”
