One Sunday, the preacher gave a sermon titled,
“Forgive Your Enemies.”
At the end of the sermon, he asked the congregation,
“How many of you have forgiven your enemies?”
About half the people raised their hands.
He asked again.
This time, nearly everyone raised a hand.
Finally, he asked a third time.
Everyone responded except one elderly woman.
The preacher smiled and asked,
“Mrs. Johnson, are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”
She replied,
“I don’t have any.”
The preacher looked surprised.
“That’s very unusual. How old are you?”
“Ninety-three,” she answered.
The preacher invited her to the front of the church.
“Mrs. Johnson, please tell everyone how you’ve managed to live so long without having any enemies.”
The little old lady slowly walked to the front, smiled, and said,
“I outlived every one of those idiots.”
