Miss Bea, the church organist, was in her 80s and had never married. She was well known for her kindness and sweet nature.
One afternoon, the pastor stopped by to visit her. She welcomed him into her cozy sitting room and asked him to have a seat while she made some tea.
As he waited, the pastor noticed a glass bowl sitting on top of her old organ. The bowl was filled with water, and floating in it was a strange little protective cover.
When Miss Bea returned with tea and scones, they began chatting.
The pastor tried not to stare at the unusual bowl, but his curiosity eventually got the better of him.
Pastor:
“Miss Bea, would you mind telling me about this?”
He pointed toward the bowl.
Miss Bea:
“Oh, yes! Isn’t it wonderful?”
Pastor:
“Wonderful? How so?”
Miss Bea:
“I was walking through the park a few months ago when I found this little package on the ground. The instructions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet, and it would prevent the spread of disease.”
She smiled proudly and added,
Miss Bea:
“And you know, I haven’t had a cold all winter!”
