Mary and Tim had been happily married for ten years.
They loved spending time together. They watched films, enjoyed meals together, and every Sunday they played a round of golf. Neither of them was especially good at it, but they always had fun.
One day, Mary became seriously ill.
After examining her, the doctor quietly told Tim,
“I’m sorry, but Mary probably only has a couple of months left.”
Tim was heartbroken. From that day on, he spent every possible moment by her side, doing everything he could to make her comfortable.
One evening, Mary looked at him and gently asked,
“Tim… after I’m gone, do you think you’ll ever marry again?”
Tim wiped away a tear and replied,
“Oh, Mary… not for a very long time. But perhaps someday, if I meet the right person.”
Mary nodded thoughtfully.
“If you do, would you let her sleep in our bed?”
Tim sighed.
“That would take me a long time… but eventually, I suppose I would.”
Mary was quiet for a moment before asking,
“And would you take her golfing on Sundays, like we always did?”
Tim gave a sad smile.
“Yes… I imagine I would.”
Then Mary asked,
“And would she use my golf clubs?”
Tim paused, then shook his head.
“No, I don’t think so.”
Mary looked surprised.
“Why not?”
Tim cleared his throat and replied,
“Well… for one thing… she’s left-handed.”
