Fifteen-year-old Little Johnny came home driving a brand-new Porsche.
His parents were shocked.
“Where did you get that car?” they shouted.
“I bought it today,” Johnny replied calmly.
“With what money?” his parents demanded. “Do you know how much a Porsche costs?”
“Well,” said Johnny, “this one only cost me fifteen dollars.”
His parents were even more stunned.
“Who would sell a Porsche for fifteen dollars?” they asked.
“The lady who just moved in up the street,” Johnny answered. “I don’t know her name. She saw me riding my bike and asked if I wanted to buy her Porsche for fifteen dollars.”
“Oh my goodness!” his mother gasped.
“She must be out of her mind! John, go over there and find out what’s going on.”
So Johnny’s father went to the woman’s house and found her peacefully planting flowers in her yard.
He introduced himself and said,
“I’m the father of the boy you sold the Porsche to for fifteen dollars. Can you explain why you sold it so cheaply?”
The woman smiled and replied,
“Well, this morning my husband called. I thought he was away on a business trip, but I found out he had run off to Hawaii with his secretary and had no intention of coming back.”
“He said he was stranded and asked me to sell his new Porsche and send him the money.”
“So I did.”
