Little Johnny was in Grade 7 and was always asking his teacher difficult questions.
One day, he asked his English teacher,
“Why do we ignore some letters when we pronounce words, like the H in hour and honour?”
The teacher replied,
“We’re not ignoring them. They’re called silent letters.”
Johnny looked even more confused.
Later that day, during lunch break, the teacher handed Johnny her lunch and said,
“Please go and heat my food in the cafeteria.”
Johnny returned a few minutes later with the empty lunch container.
The teacher looked surprised.
“Johnny! What happened? I told you to go and heat my food!”
Johnny smiled and replied,
“Ma’am, I thought the H was silent.”
