Little Johnny and Susie were only 10 years old, but they were convinced they were in love.
One day, Johnny decided he wanted to marry Susie, so he bravely went to ask her father for permission.
Johnny:
“Mr. Smith, Susie and I are in love, and I’d like to ask for her hand in marriage.”
Mr. Smith smiled at how serious Johnny was.
Mr. Smith:
“Well, Johnny, you’re only 10 years old. Where would you two live?”
Johnny:
“In Susie’s room, of course. It’s bigger than mine, and there’s enough space for both of our things.”
Mr. Smith laughed.
Mr. Smith:
“Okay, but how would you support yourselves? You’re too young to get a job.”
Johnny:
“We’d live on our allowances. Susie gets $5 a week, and I get $10. That’s about $60 a month, and I think we’d be just fine.”
By now, Mr. Smith was amazed at how carefully Johnny had planned everything.
He thought for a moment and decided to ask one final question.
Mr. Smith:
“Well, Johnny, it sounds like you’ve thought of everything. But what would you do if you and Susie ever had children of your own?”
Johnny shrugged.
Johnny:
“Well, gosh, Mr. Smith, I’ve been worried about that too… but we’ve been lucky so far!”
