Fifteen-year-old Johnny came home driving a brand-new Porsche.
His parents rushed outside in shock.
“Johnny!” his father shouted. “Where did you get that car?”
“I bought it,” Johnny replied calmly.
“With what money?” his mother asked. “Do you know how much a Porsche costs?”
Johnny nodded.
“This one only cost me fifteen dollars.”
His parents couldn’t believe what they were hearing.
“Who would sell a Porsche for fifteen dollars?” his father demanded.
“The lady who just moved in up the street,” Johnny explained. “She saw me riding my bike and asked if I wanted to buy it.”
Johnny’s mother gasped.
“Something must be terribly wrong. Go over there and find out what’s going on!”
So Johnny’s father walked to the woman’s house.
He found her peacefully planting flowers in her front yard.
After introducing himself, he asked,
“Why would you sell my son’s Porsche for only fifteen dollars?”
The woman smiled and replied,
“This morning, I found out that my husband wasn’t really on a business trip. He had run away to Hawaii with his secretary and doesn’t plan to come back.”
She continued,
“Then he called me and said he was stranded. He asked me to sell his new Porsche and send him the money.”
She smiled again and said,
“So… I did.”
