One day, Harry the eagle waited at the nest for Mary, his beloved mate of ten wonderful years.
When she didn’t return, he went looking for her. Sadly, he found that she had been shot.
Harry was heartbroken. After spending some time mourning, he decided it was time to find a new companion.
Since there weren’t any female eagles around, he thought he would have to look for a different kind of bird.
Before long, he met a beautiful dove and brought her back to the nest.
They got along well, but the dove kept saying the same thing over and over:
“I am a DOVE, I want to love! I am a DOVE, I want to love!”
After hearing it again and again, Harry finally lost his patience. He asked the dove to leave and flew off to search for another mate.
Soon he found a lovely loon and brought her back to the nest.
Everything seemed to be going well, but the loon wouldn’t stop repeating:
“I am a LOON, I want to spoon! I am a LOON, I want to spoon!”
Harry sighed and sent the loon away too.
Once again, he set off in search of a new mate.
This time, he met a beautiful duck and brought her back to the nest.
Things were going great, but then the duck spoke.
No, the duck didn’t say that! Don’t be so rude!
The duck said:
“I am a DRAKE. You made a MITHTAKE!”
