A man settled into his seat on a flight when the elderly woman beside him smiled and introduced herself.
“Hello! My name is Gertrude,” she said. “I’m flying to New York for my grandson’s third birthday, and I’m so excited!”
Without waiting for a reply, she continued.
“It feels like yesterday he was just a tiny baby, and now he’s already three years old. Time goes by so fast!”
She reached into her purse.
“Oh! I have a picture of him. Here it is. Isn’t he adorable? Look at the little dimple on his left cheek. I could look at this photo all day.”
She smiled proudly.
“And when he calls me, he says, ‘Hi, Grandma!’ in the sweetest little voice. It melts my heart every single time.”
The man listened politely as Gertrude happily talked about her grandson for what felt like hours.
Finally, she paused and smiled apologetically.
“Oh dear, I’ve been talking the whole time and haven’t let you say a single word.”
Then she looked at him and asked,
“Now tell me… what do you think about my grandson?”
