An elderly woman and her young grandson, whose face was covered with bright freckles, spent the day at the zoo.
A group of children was waiting in line to have their faces painted by a local artist who was decorating cheeks with tiger paws.
“You have so many freckles, there’s no room to paint anything!” one girl in line said to the little boy.
Embarrassed, the boy lowered his head.
His grandmother knelt beside him and gently touched his cheek.
“I love your freckles. When I was a little girl, I always wished I had freckles,” she said.
“Freckles are beautiful.”
The boy looked up.
“Really?”
“Of course,” replied his grandmother.
“Just name one thing that’s prettier than freckles.”
The little boy thought for a moment. Then he looked closely at his grandmother’s face and softly whispered,
“Wrinkles.”
