A sweet elderly woman called St. Joseph’s Hospital.
In a soft voice, she asked,
“Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?”
The operator replied,
“I’d be happy to help. What’s the patient’s name and room number?”
The woman answered,
“Norma Findlay, Room 302.”
“Please hold while I check with the nurse’s station,” the operator said.
A few minutes later, the operator returned.
“I have good news. The nurse says Norma is doing well. Her blood pressure is fine, her blood test results are normal, and Dr. Cohen expects to discharge her tomorrow.”
The elderly woman smiled.
“Thank you so much. That’s wonderful news. I was very worried. God bless you.”
The operator asked,
“You’re very welcome. Is Norma your daughter?”
The old lady replied,
“No… I’m Norma Findlay in Room 302.”
“No one ever tells me how I’m doing.”
