Two elderly people lived in a mobile home park in Florida. The man was a widower, and the woman was a widow. They had known each other for several years and had become good friends.
One evening, everyone gathered for a community dinner at the activity center. The two of them were seated across from each other at the same table.
As they enjoyed their meal, the man kept smiling and looking at her. Finally, he worked up the courage to ask,
“Will you marry me?”
The woman paused for a few seconds to think before answering.
“Yes. Yes, I will.”
After dinner, they talked for a little while longer before each went home.
The next morning, the man woke up feeling worried.
“Did she say ‘yes,’ or did she say ‘no’?” he wondered.
No matter how hard he tried, he simply couldn’t remember.
Feeling nervous, he picked up the phone and called her.
First, he apologized and explained that his memory wasn’t as good as it used to be. Then he reminded her about their wonderful evening together.
Finally, he gathered enough courage to ask,
“When I asked you to marry me, did you say ‘yes’ or did you say ‘no’?”
The woman happily replied,
“Why, I said, ‘Yes, yes I will,’ and I meant it with all my heart.”
Then she added with a laugh,
“And I’m so glad you called because I couldn’t remember who had asked me.”
