Two elderly Southern women were sitting together in the front pew of a church, listening to a passionate preacher.
When the preacher spoke against the sin of stealing, the two women shouted,
Women:
“AMEN, BROTHER!”
When he condemned the sin of lust, they called out,
Women:
“PREACH IT, REVEREND!”
Then the preacher began talking about the sin of lying. The women jumped to their feet and cheered.
Women:
“RIGHT ON, BROTHER! TELL IT LIKE IT IS! AMEN!”
But when the preacher started talking about gossip, the two women suddenly became very quiet.
One woman leaned toward the other and whispered,
Woman:
“He’s quit preaching and started meddling!”
