Miss Bea, the church organist, was in her 80s and had never married. She was well known for her kindness and gentle nature.
One afternoon, the pastor came to visit. Miss Bea welcomed him into her cozy sitting room and asked him to sit while she went to make some tea.
As he waited, the pastor noticed a glass bowl filled with water sitting on top of her old organ. Floating in the water was a small, unusual item.
When Miss Bea returned with tea and scones, they began chatting.
The pastor tried to ignore the strange bowl, but his curiosity eventually got the better of him.
Pastor:
“Miss Bea, would you mind telling me about this?”
Miss Bea:
“Oh yes! Isn’t it wonderful?”
Pastor:
“Wonderful? What does it do?”
Miss Bea:
“I was walking through the park a few months ago when I found this little package on the ground. The instructions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet, and it would prevent the spread of disease.”
She smiled proudly and added,
Miss Bea:
“And you know, I haven’t had a cold all winter!”
