A wealthy elderly man was lying on his deathbed when he realized he had never written a will.
He called his lawyer and asked him to come over.
The next day, the lawyer arrived with a notepad in hand.
The old man began,
“I want 25% of my estate to go to charity. I’ve done well in life, and it’s time to give something back.”
The lawyer nodded.
“That’s very generous. I’ll make sure it’s taken care of.”
The old man continued,
“I also want 25% to go to my son. He’s been waiting a long time to inherit my money.”
“Very well,” the lawyer replied. “I’ll see that he receives it.”
“Finally,” the old man said, “I want the remaining 50% to go to my wife, but only if she remarries after I’m gone.”
The lawyer looked puzzled.
“I’ll include that in your will,” he said. “But may I ask why you want her to remarry?”
The old man smiled faintly and replied,
“Because I want at least one man to regret my death.”
