Five-year-old Johnny and his friend Susie were playing house.
After a while, they decided it was time to get married.
So Johnny went to Susie’s father and politely asked for permission to marry her.
Smiling, Susie’s dad played along.
“That’s very nice, Johnny. But where would the two of you live?”
Johnny answered confidently,
“I’ll just move into Susie’s room. It’s big enough for both of us.”
“And how will you afford everything?” Susie’s father asked.
Johnny replied,
“I get $5 a week for my allowance, and Susie gets $5 too. That gives us $10 a week. We should be just fine.”
Trying to stump him, Susie’s father asked one last question.
“And what if you have children someday?”
Johnny smiled proudly and said,
“Well… we’ve been lucky so far!”
