A wealthy elderly man was lying on his deathbed when he realized he had never written a will.
He called his lawyer and asked him to come over.
The next day, the lawyer arrived.
The old man said,
“I want 25% of my estate to go to charity. I’ve been fortunate in life, and I’d like to give something back.”
“How generous,” the lawyer replied. “I’ll make sure it’s done.”
The old man continued,
“I also want 25% to go to my son. He’s been waiting a long time for his inheritance.”
“Very well,” said the lawyer.
“And I want the remaining 50% to go to my wife…”
The lawyer nodded.
“…but only if she remarries after I’m gone.”
The lawyer looked surprised.
“That’s an unusual condition. May I ask why?”
The old man smiled and replied,
“Because I want to make sure at least one man regrets my death.”
