An elderly couple walked into a fast-food restaurant.
They ordered one hamburger, one order of fries, and one drink.
The old man carefully unwrapped the hamburger and cut it in half.
He placed one half in front of his wife.
Then he counted the fries, dividing them into two equal piles, and placed one pile in front of her.
He took a sip of the drink, handed it to his wife, and she took a sip before placing it back between them.
As the old man began eating his half of the hamburger, people around the restaurant quietly whispered,
“Those poor folks… they can only afford one meal to share.”
A kind young man walked over and offered to buy them another meal.
The old man smiled and replied,
“Thank you, but we’re fine. We’ve spent our lives sharing everything.”
The people noticed that the elderly woman still hadn’t eaten a single bite.
She simply watched her husband eat, taking an occasional sip of the drink.
The young man returned and again offered to buy them another meal.
The old woman smiled and politely declined.
“No, thank you. We always share everything.”
After the old man finished eating and carefully wiped his face with a napkin, the young man couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer.
He asked the woman,
“If you don’t mind me asking… what are you waiting for?”
The old woman smiled and answered,
“The teeth.”
