Lisa bought a donkey from a farmer for £100.
The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.
The following morning, the farmer arrived and said,
“Sorry, but I’ve got some bad news. The donkey died.”
Lisa replied,
“Well, then just give me my money back.”
The farmer shook his head.
“I can’t. I’ve already spent it.”
Lisa thought for a moment and said,
“Alright then, just bring me the dead donkey.”
The farmer looked confused.
“What are you going to do with it?”
“I’m going to raffle it off,” Lisa replied.
The farmer laughed.
“You can’t raffle off a dead donkey!”
“Sure I can,” said Lisa. “I just won’t tell anyone it’s dead.”
A month later, the farmer ran into Lisa and asked,
“So, what happened with that dead donkey?”
Lisa smiled.
“I raffled it off. I sold 500 tickets for £2 each and made a profit of £898.”
The farmer looked shocked.
“Didn’t anyone complain?”
Lisa shrugged and replied,
“Just the person who won.”
“So I gave them their £2 back.”
